Shoe Experiements
The longer I lived in Los Angeles the more I became facinated with extreme weather and its effects of objects and landsacpe.
I started to experiement with small accelerated actions to mimic events we saw in Southern California. Sea level rise, algea blooms and high winds. I used white Old Skool Vans as the canvas.
The first one “rising seas” I came up with a dyed filtered water solution that I could float on a salt water solution. I then used a small 5v pump to raise the dyed water to make marks on the shoe to imitate water level signs.
The second iteriation I took some algea from the LA river and tried to get it to grow on the shoe. This one was not as successful, most likely due to the chemicals on the shoe.

The third is still on-going. For “high winds” I built a dirt hopper, high speed fan (rc motor) and a chamber to try to dye fabric with force. Will Update when complete.
